This groundbreaking electric SUV redefines the iconic G-Class with a host of impressive features.
A Legacy of Design Meets Modern Innovation
While Mercedes-Benz’s EQ models are known for their sleek, aerodynamic designs aimed at improving efficiency and range, the G-Class proudly retains its classic, boxy silhouette. Apart from a distinctive front grille and functional air curtains in the rear wheel arches, the G 580 maintains the rugged aesthetic of its internal combustion engine siblings.
Despite its hefty weight of over three tons, the G 580 with EQ Technology achieves a remarkable 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 4.7 seconds—a testament to its impressive engineering prowess.
Power and Performance Redefined
At the heart of the G 580 is a robust 116 kWh battery that powers four electric motors—two at the front and two at the rear—producing a combined 579 horsepower and an astonishing 859 lb-ft of torque. This formidable setup ensures exceptional performance on and off the road.
The G 580 boasts an estimated range of 473 km according to the WLTP test cycle. However, with EPA and NRC figures pending, the real-world range is expected to be around 400 km. It supports DC fast charging up to 200 kW, enabling the battery to recharge from 10-80% in approximately 32 minutes.

Trailblazing Off-Road Capability
Though only a small percentage of G-Class owners venture off-road, the G 580 is equipped with advanced features for those who do. The innovative G-Turn function allows the SUV to execute up to two full turns on unpaved or loose surfaces, with each wheel driven independently to facilitate precise maneuvers. Additionally, G-Steering reduces the turning radius on trails by controlling torque at each wheel, allowing the vehicle to pivot around the inside rear wheel. Virtual differential locks through torque vectoring enhance off-road stability.
Engineered for Adventure
The G 580 with EQ Technology excels in challenging conditions with a maximum fording depth of 850 mm—150 mm deeper than its ICE counterparts. The battery is encased in a robust, torsion-resistant shell to guard against water and dirt. The underbody panel, measuring 26 mm thick and secured with over 50 steel fasteners, adds to the vehicle’s durability.
With an independent front suspension, solid rear axle, approach and departure angles of 32 degrees and 30.7 degrees, respectively, and 250 mm of ground clearance, the G 580 can conquer 100-percent grades and maintain stability on slopes up to 35 degrees.
Unique Features and Luxury Interior
In keeping with luxury EV trends, the G 580 introduces the G-Roar function—a distinctive sound signature created by speakers inside and outside the vehicle for an immersive acoustic experience.
Inside, the G 580 combines ruggedness with refinement. It features a transparent hood function that offers a virtual view of the area beneath the front of the vehicle to help drivers detect obstacles. The new Offroad Cockpit displays essential driving information, including artificial horizon, compass, altitude, steering angle, torque, and tire pressure, while supporting off-road navigation.
Passenger space remains consistent with previous models, and the charging cable is conveniently stored in the spare tire compartment. If a spare tire is a must, it must be selected from the available options.
