They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You could have the latest fashion forward clothes and flawless makeup on, but if you don’t feel beautiful on the inside, then you will never feel good about how you look on the outside.

That is why, before focusing on fixing your outside appearance, focus on the inside and try to feel happy from within. Here are some quick tips to discovering your inner beauty and happiness:

1- Embrace your physical features

Society’s idea of beauty changes with every decade and century. Just because your body doesn’t align with the currently accepted idea of beauty, doesn’t mean you aren’t beautiful. The trends will always come and go. Instead of changing yourself according to the new trends, embrace your physical features. After all, beauty doesn’t depend on shapes or sizes, it depends on the kind of attitude you have towards your body.

2- Change your relationship with the mirror

Instead of looking into the mirror to fix your hair or check if that annoying pimple has disappeared, look at your best aspects and focus on them. Pick out three best aspects of your body that you like, every day. As you look in the mirror, give positive affirmations and compliments to yourself. While you are doing that, don’t forget to smile. Initially it might feel weird talking to yourself in the mirror, but its just a part of the process which will eventually make you feel more confident and embrace your inner beauty.

3- Get rid of negativity

According to research, women have on average 13 negative thoughts about their body everyday. To really feel beautiful from the inside, you need to reverse that negativity and fix your self image issues. Instead of being harsh and over critical about yourself, put your focus on all the positive things.

4- Confidence is the key

Once you have deleted negative thoughts from your mind and braved in front of the mirror, it’s time to be a little more confident and stand taller. Put on a smile, work on your body posture and make sure you look people right in the eye when you meet them. If you don’t feel confident just yet, we recommend faking it till you really make it. Sometimes behaving as if you are confident can indeed make you feel more confident.

5- Develop hobbies

Find activities that you are passionate about which have nothing to do with shopping, makeup, or mirrors. Whether its an online course that could help you improve your skills or an outdoor activity that you have been thinking about doing for a long time, pick one that makes you feel happy and content because that is all that really matters.

6- Weed out your friend circle

There are two kinds of people in life — One who will always give you positive compliments and support you no matter what, and others who will always pick out shortcomings in you even when you look perfect. To truly feel beautiful from the inside, you need to weed out those people from your life who bring nothing but negativity with them.

Instead, focus on creating meaningful and nurturing relationships with people who have always seen the good in you and supported you through difficult times. Invest your energy, time, and money in people that make you feel glad that you are alive.

At some point or other in your life, you will feel the societal pressure to fit into the norms and change yourself just so everyone around you can easily accept you. While doing that may sound easy, it’s not. You may just end up being unhappy about who you have turned into. Instead, be unapologetically yourself. You should feel comfortable in your own skin.
